You will be given a program and it will range from two weeks to 6 weeks at a time. A typical monthly program might consist of the following: Week 1- medium; Week 2- fairly hard; Week 3-hard; Week 4- recovery. The basic daily formula will be basically easy day /hard day. The number of sessions you complete each week will depend on the details provided in your profile. An important component of any successful training program is keeping a diary and no less essential when training by correspondence. When contacting your coach you will be able to refer to what you have been doing, how hard it was and how did it feel. That hard training session you did two weeks ago might not seem so hard when you contact the coach but the record of what you said how you felt will quickly jog the memory. The same applies if a session seemed overly easy. This is the information the coach needs to adjust your program to suit you and only you! So all you have to do is get in contact with your" personal coach" and start training. |
Why Online Coaching? There are some excellent programs, from sprints to marathons to be found on the internet. If you are a sprinter or marathon runner, aspiring athlete or veteran and masters, you could look at these programs. They can take you through week by week and month by month to the fulfilment of your goal. But what if something goes wrong? You are sick, injured or not meeting the weekly targets? The answer can be "coaching by correspondence" This means finding a coach who will provide you with a weekly/monthly program which is tailored to your particular make up and provide regular contact and adjustments to your program. Coaching athletes by correspondence is not something new and has been and is used by athletes of all levels of performances. Many elite athletes find themselves away from their coach for periods of time and follow a program provided by their coach with whom they are in regular contact. This is a form of correspondence coaching. |
Once you make the decision to begin a coaching program, you will complete a questionnaire which will provide your coach with your profile and the goals you wish to achieve. Once all these details are sorted out you will be asked to contact the coach by email or phone at least once a fortnight so he/she can monitor your progress and adjust the program where necessary. Most coaches will ask you to contact them whenever you need .This is the big difference from downloading an internet program or following one from a book. You have your own coach-you just don't regularly see him/her but you are in regular contact. |
